Description

Fresh Moringa Oleifera seeds Bushy variation will flower earlier and set fruit in the first year in good - ideal conditions.

GENERAL INFORMATION ON THE TREE

This variation of Moringa Oleifera is fast growing, more bushy and has smaller more tender pods.

The tree still requires some cutting back to allow for leaf and pod collection. One of the best ways to keep the Moringa at a manageable height is to prune back top growth and cut the branches in half. This will encourage the Moringa tree to branch out, along the trunk, and make it much easier to harvest, buds, blossoms, leaves and pods.

The tree will tolerate cold weather but will die back if exposed to frost; in most cases the tree will reshoot once the weather warms up. Alternatively the trees can be grown in large pots and regularly pruned to allow for growth in a sheltered area during the frost season.

Most parts of the tree are edible, the leaves, pods, flowers buds, blossoms, and seeds can all be eaten. The flower buds and blossoms should be cooked; the seeds can be eaten raw or cooked. The leaves and pods are very high in protein, nutrients and vitamins. The Moringa tree can provide 7 times the vitamin C of oranges, 4 times the calcium of milk, 4 times the Vitamin A in carrots, twice the protein of milk, and 3 times the potassium of bananas.

HOW TO GROW YOUR SEEDS

Soak seeds in water for a day then plant the Moringa seeds about 2-3cm deep, cover with soil, and firm it into place. They prefer a free draining soil not heavy loam and can be fertilized with any organic fertilizer once established. You can expect around 70% germination, depending on the conditions of the soil and temperature as they like warm conditions. Plant the seeds in pots, or into the ground, thoroughly water the soil post planting. They will need a thorough soaking every day, once the seedling emerge from the soil they, they can be watered every day or every other day until they are about 45 cm tall, then water twice a week until the tree is 75 cm tall then only water once a week or when required. The tree will tolerate some moderately brackish or mineralised ground water once it is established and 1.5 M or taller, but this water may adversely affect the growth and production rates.

Note: that In cool weather use a seed raising mat, green house or place pot indoors in a warm area to aid germination of your seeds.
